Neon Dance seek Cultural Connectors (age 18-24) in three UK locations (Liverpool, Didcot and Bristol) to work alongside the company and act as a bridge between their local community and Neon’s latest performance work Puzzle Creature. We’re searching for creative self-starters to help us reach new audiences, come join our team!
Fee: £500
Role: This role is task based, not hour-based. We work flexibly and remotely, operating on a trust basis. As long as tasks are complete, you define when and how they get done.

Your Responsibilities
You’ll find ways to record and describe the production on your own terms, exploring ways to engage your community with the work and Neon Dance. We want you to tell people about it (locally, physically & digitally), excite them and engage them in a conversation about it.
You will have an important role in the physical and local digital campaign to reach (face to face) people in your community who may not have engaged with the arts before. You will be responsible for a ticket budget of £150 to ensure those in your communities who are unable to purchase a ticket (for whatever reason) are still be able to attend the performance.
Our expectations are that the role will attract 30 new people to a performance; 15 audience members new to the venue/festival who will pay for their own tickets after you have connected with them and 15 audience members who use the allocated ticket budget of £150 that you have at your discretion.
We expect you to attend the performance and create your own response to the work (GIF, poem, film, blog, song, sculpture, review, art work etc.) which will be shared online afterwards.
Tour
PuzzleCreature is inspired by artist/architect duo Arakawa and Madeline Gins and is a 60-minute work that brings together contemporary dance, a newly commissioned surround sound score and immersive set design by the award winning Numen / For Use to enable our audience to question their attitude to aging and the body. Audiences occupy the same physical space as Neon’s world class performers with the performance area transformed to affect body perception. We are exploring the (in)visibility of access with this production, having built in bespoke access solutions for audiences with visual and auditory impairments with audio description, British Sign Language and Japanese Sign Language. The production will tour to Liverpool (7 October), Didcot (23 October), Bristol (24+25 October) with more dates to be announced in Spring 2020.
Context
Following on from our paid Media Intern role for the last three years and our first set of Cultural Connectors in Autumn 2018 we are actively seeking to address the imbalance of opportunity for young people in the arts.
