Our next round of paid Cultural Connector roles are here! This time we’re looking for creative self-starters aged 18-24 in London, Oxford, Cambridgeshire and Bournemouth to help support the touring of ‘Mahajanaka Dance Drama’, a collaborative project created in partnership with the Oxford based composer / producer Sebastian Reynolds and the award winning Thai dance artist Pichet Klunchun. Help us reach new audiences and get paid to form your own creative response to the work!
Fee: £500
Role: This role is task based, not hour-based. We work flexibly and remotely, operating on a trust basis. As long as tasks are complete, you define when and how they get done.

Your Responsibilities
You’ll find ways to record and describe the production on your own terms, exploring ways to engage your community with the work and Jataka mythology. We want you to tell people about Mahajanaka (locally, physically & digitally), excite them and engage them in a conversation about the work.
You will have an important role in the physical and local digital campaign to reach (face to face) people in your community who may not have engaged with the arts before. You will be responsible for a ticket budget of £100 to ensure those in your communities who are unable to purchase a ticket (for whatever reason) are still be able to attend the performance. We expect you to attend the performance and create your own response to the work (GIF, poem, film, blog, song, sculpture, review, art work etc.) which will be shared online afterwards.
Mahajanaka Dance Drama
One of the oldest surviving folk tales in the world retold through dance, music and animation, Mahajanaka Dance Drama features an award winning team of artists from Thailand and the UK. British Composer / Producer Sebastian Reynolds and Neon Dance Choreographer / Director Adrienne Hart collaborate with renowned dance artist Pichet Klunchun to retell the story of Mahajanaka Jataka. Bringing together east and western dance and music performance traditions, this enchanting production fuses ancient and modern with animated scenes from Sun & Moon Studios.
Informed by research trips to Bangkok to explore Jataka mythology in contemporary Thailand, and subsequent studio time with the creative team at DanceXchange (UK), Mahajanaka Dance Drama previewed at Wiltshire Music Centre (UK) on 2 April 2018 with an excerpt from the production presented as part of the sold out Neon Dance Wild Card at Sadler’s Wells (22-23 March 2018).

Following on from our paid Media Intern role for the last three years and our first set of Cultural Connectors in Autumn 2018 we are actively seeking to address the imbalance of opportunity for young people in the arts.
